Overview

The Ophthalmology Department focuses on the study, diagnosis, and management of eye disorders and diseases. It trains students in both clinical and surgical aspects of ophthalmology, providing them with a comprehensive understanding of visual health. The department emphasizes preventive care, timely interventions, and modern surgical techniques.

Key Learning Areas

  • Anatomy, physiology, and pathology of the eye.
  • Diagnosis and management of common eye disorders, including refractive
    errors, conjunctivitis, and cataracts.
  • Understanding and treating ocular manifestations of systemic diseases, such as
    diabetes and hypertension.
  • Techniques for common ophthalmic surgeries, including cataract extraction and
    glaucoma management.
  • Ophthalmic emergencies, including trauma and infections.
    Treatment & Services:
  • Vision Correction: Diagnosis and management of refractive errors with
    spectacles or contact lenses.
  • Surgical Services: Comprehensive care for cataracts, glaucoma, and other eye
    conditions requiring surgical intervention.
  • Emergency Care: Immediate treatment for ocular trauma, foreign body removal,
    and acute infections.
  • Specialized Clinics: Services for diabetic retinopathy, retinal disorders, and
    pediatric ophthalmology.
    • Screening Programs: Vision screening and community outreach programs for
    early detection of eye diseases.
  • Emergency airway management and ventilatory support.
  • Coordination of care in mass casualty incidents.
